Cancer Care in Our Community

Cancer 101
Cancer occurs when abnormal cells divide without control and are able to invade other tissues. Cancer cells can spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. And there are more than 100 types of cancer, including carcinoma, sarcoma, leukemia, lymphoma/myeloma, and central nervous system cancers. But there’s some good news: A new report from the nation’s leading cancer organizations shows that, for the first time since 1998, both incidence and death rates for all cancers combined are decreasing for both men and women, due mostly to declines in some of the most common types of cancer.
